Listening Saves Lives

Listening Saves Lives is an Aroundness initiative centered on the power of being heard. We help people learn to listen, hold space, and remain present with another person's experience without trying to change it.

When people feel genuinely heard, they may begin hearing themselves differently.

Being heard matters

Listening

Listening is the practice of being fully present with another person without immediately fixing, solving, judging, advising, rescuing, or redirecting. It means giving someone the space to express what is true for them while allowing their experience to remain their own.

Holding Space

Holding space is an active practice of presence, curiosity, patience, witnessing, allowing, grounded attention, and nonjudgmental listening. It means staying with another person's experience without needing to change it, explain it, or make it about us.

What Listening Is Not

Listening is not advising, fixing, correcting, solving, rescuing, comparing, redirecting, or rushing to relieve discomfort. These responses are often well-intended, but they can shift the focus from the person sharing to the person listening.

Listening is not fixing.

It's being present enough to let someone else's experience remain theirs.
